Take Action on RFK
A new stadium is coming to Kingman Park opening in 2030, but what else is planned for the 180-acre campus? The Office of Planning is creating a Master Plan that will be released this summer. A recent WMATA study rejected a new metro station at Oklahoma Ave NE & Benning Rd NE. A giant parking garage and a 5-lane road are planned for the “Kingman Park District.” We still have yet to see a binding Community Benefits Agreement or a public meeting with the Community Benefits Oversight Committee. We’ve been promised a stadium of the future, but many decisions seem to be stuck in the past. Take action to ensure redevelopment at the RFK stadium site is people-centered, transit focused, and fully transparent.
We demand an independent review of the WMATA study that rejects a new metro station at Oklahoma Ave & Benning Rd, quarterly public hearings, where neighbors can actually testify – not just the billionaires, and transparency from the Community Benefits Oversight Committee.
Call/email/DM all of your Councilmembers (the Council chair and at-Large members represent us too!) Attend scheduled DC Council budget meetings. Knock on their office door. Showing up to the Wilson Building (whether planned or unannounced) has a huge impact in letting the Council know we deserve better.
We demand real and accessible community services, benefits and engagement. Not just a promise.
Not sure what to say? Here are some talking points.

The current plan calls for no new metro station, a 5-lane road cutting across Oklahoma Lawn, and a giant parking garage — housing thousands of vehicles — directly across from Kingman Park homes, threatening the health and safety of our community, towering over our green space, and impeding access to the riverfront.
There is a better way! Most neighbors we’ve spoken with propose adding a new metro infill station along Benning and Oklahoma Ave NE, reducing parking overall, and relocating what's left to unoccupied portions of the RFK site and surrounding areas.
